Visconti will start on the west side of the district with a formal announcement ceremony in Torrington at 9 a.m., with stops in Hartford, Bristol, Newington and Manchester throughout the day. Visconti says the multi-stop announcement tour is his way of showing that he will be actively involved with the towns and voters in the district. “Far too often, the image we see of Congress is negative,” Visconti says. “It appears to be a place of unending bickering, manipulation and stagnation, all of which breed frustration and allow for missed opportunities. "It is time to send Representatives to Congress who will always remember that their job is not to dictate to the people or represent the few but rather as our founding fathers intended, to return to the concept of government by and for the people." Visconti was born in Hartford and has spent most of his life in the Greater Hartford area. He is the owner of Joseph Visconti LLC, a general contracting firm specializing in commercial renovations and repairs. He is a Republican member of the West Hartford Town Council, serving on the council’s Community Planning and Development Committee, and is the Council liaison to the West Hartford Board of Education. As a community activist he was a founding member of Save the Center, working to inform West Hartford residents about the Blue Back Square development, and leading the fight to ensure that every citizen was guaranteed the right to vote on public subsidies and the sale of town property. As a patron of the arts, Visconti, a New York trained actor, has been an actor mentor for the Hartford Children’s Theater in Hartford. Visconti, who is seeking the nomination to challenge incumbent Congressman John Larson, is an avid boater, and a member of the Patriot Guard Riders – an organization of motorcyclists who tour Connecticut honoring our fallen military personnel. Visconti is a graduate of the University of Hartford and resides in West Hartford with his three children Joey (age 20), Gabriella (age 18) and Michael (age 14). He is a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church in West Hartford.
